Business Insider recently released its annual list of the 50 Best Employers In America. Not surprisingly, many of those same companies also landed on their list of the top 20 Most Flexible Employers in America. Employees want flexibility. It’s the small perk with the big payoff. How big? According to the Telework Coalition, businesses save an average of $20,000 annually for each full time remote employee. But saving on office space is just part of the equation, companies that embrace remote working policies can better attract and retain staff.
Contrary to popular belief, the typical remote employee isn’t a young mom or a 20-something working in his pajamas. Actually:
The typical telecommuter is a 49-year-old college graduate — man or woman — who earns about $58,000 a year and belongs to a company with more than 100 employees, according to numbers culled from the Census Bureau’s annual American Community Survey.
While over 3 million Americans work remotely full time, around 30% of Americans work outside of a traditional office at least some of the time. Even more employees work in remote locations like distribution centers, satellite offices, etc. While not every employee or job role is a good candidate for remote work (as this handy and hilarious guide shows), the trend isn’t going away any time soon. Employers need to make sure that their off-site employees have the flexibility to get the job done from virtually anywhere.
With our new Remote Teleworker solution, TDS managedIP Hosted customers can extend the features and functionality of the business phone system to all of their employees, no matter where they are. Check out the short video below to see how you can, in the words of the inimitable Tim Gunn, “make it work”.
