Each month on the business blog we celebrate a different theme or topic. This September our bloggers will be discussing #ContinuingEducation. What better time to talk about this topic then when close to 55 million children will be returning to school in the United States?

According to the Association for Talent Development’s (ATD) 2014 State of the Industry report organizations spent $1,208 on average per employee for training and development. That’s a one percent increase over 2012. Employees spent an average of 31.5 hours on training in 2013. That’s up from 30.3 in 2012. Employers and employees spend a lot of time and money on continuing education, so we thought it would be worth more of an in depth look.

Some of the topics you may see discussed this month on the blog include:

  • Back-to-school for business pros
  • Skills you should learn
  • Best online learning resources for you and the business pros in your life
  • Groups or organizations you can become a part of to sharpen your skills
  • Must watch TED talks
