If you have time to kill before a business or personal flight, it can be the perfect opportunity to catch up on work. Yet, your productivity will depend on what airport you’re at. For example, some airports – and many airlines – have been frustratingly slow to offer free WiFi.
Here are some of the best airports if you want to:
Make phone calls
A RootMetrics survey recently measured the quality of mobile phone connections and data speed at the 50 busiest airports in the U.S. It found that Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International airport offers the best cell phone services in the USA, while the worst was Nashville International.
Have free or fast WiFi
One of the best airports in the USA for free WIFI includes Dallas-Fort Worth, which has provided free WiFi in all five of its terminals since 2012, while Helsinki Airport in Finland is one of the best for free WiFi in Europe. And earlier this year, Rotten WIFI reported that the top three airports for the fastest WiFi speeds are 1) Suvarnabhumi Airport in Thailand, 2) Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport in Tennessee and 3) Dublin Airport in Ireland.
Focus
Based on my personal experience, Singapore Changi Airport, is one of the most delightful airports in the world. You certainly won’t feel like you’re working in an airport here. There’s free WiFi and you’ll be surrounded by nature and calming features, such as a rooftop cactus garden, butterfly garden and a kinetic rain art installation.
While WiFi is obviously important, I think the availability of outlets is another key to working from an airport. Most of us have probably spent far too much time sitting on a cold, hard airport floor just to be near an available outlet.
