What’s on the soundtrack of your work day?

song motivationHeadphones are the new doors. Whether you’re working in an open office environment or from your home, more and more of us are tuning in to tune out distractions. Human resources experts are divided on whether the new headphones culture provides a welcome refuge for the introverts among us, or a sound barrier that prevents collaboration.

Personally, I use music in the office less as a way to shut out the world around me and more as a means of motivation. I want a playlist to ease me into the day, pump me up and then gently release me into the wild office.

Here’s my latest early morning playlist (you can listen to it in its entirety on YouTube). It goes from dreamy early morning songs to super aggressive rock to peppy pop, before finally ending on music that will have me ready to rule the world (or at least my desk).

  1. Gaudy Side Of Town – Gayngs
  2. Aaj Mera Jee Kardaa – Sukhwinder Singh
  3. Cigarettes & Chocolate Milk – Rufus Wainwright
  4. Generator Second Floor – Freelance Whales
  5. Happy – Pharrell
  6. Say Aha – Santigold
  7. Heads Will Roll – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
  8. Tell ‘Em – Sleigh Bells
  9. Let It Whip – Dazz Band
  10. Fresh Air – Brother Ali
  11. Pull Shapes – The Pipettes
  12. Don’t Look Back – Boston
  13. Everlong – Foo Fighters
  14. You’ll Be Bright – Cloud Cult
  15. Game of Thrones Main Theme – Ramin Djawadi

What better song than the Game of Thrones theme to leave me ready to conquer Westeros that latest project? Am I right?
